Payroll Officer

Our client is recruiting for an individual to join their payroll department.

You will be responsible for the production of the company’s payrolls and provide technical support to the Payroll Manager in the production of the payroll.



  • To input and process individual payroll(s)
  • Checking timesheets and/or job sheets to agreed hours worked and liaising with Contract Co-ordinators regarding queries relating to Cash Value Payments with the support of the Payroll Manager as necessary
  • To produce reports and investigate anomalies regarding the completion status of jobs
  • To liaise with the Human Resources department to ensure that all relevant information regarding employees who are starting or leaving and other adjustments to employee's pay has been input into the payroll system
  • To calculate and administer pension schemes
  • To validate and verify the expenses claims submitted for each payroll
  • To administer the payroll within the statutory and regulatory requirements for payroll production
  • To maintain effective records for each payroll, which will satisfy reporting requirements of internal and external customers
  • To respond to payroll queries from the employees and external sources and ensure confidentiality on payroll matters
  • Reconcile payments to the Payroll and the Nominal Ledger Suspense Accounts
  • To deal with all appropriate approved deductions from pay, including preparing all payments to other bodies connected with deductions from pay
  • To prepare all year end returns at the end of each financial year in a timely and accurate manner, including the production of P11Ds, with the support of the Payroll Manager where necessary
  • Co-ordinating any salary increases
  • To support in the periodic review of payroll processes ensuring that they are efficient and effective
  • To assist in the review and updating all procedure notes relating to payroll matters
  • Ensure all payroll records are kept accurately and securely and in line with guidelines and legislative requirements
  • Ensure up to date with current payroll legislation and any legislative changes



  • Qualified (or working towards) CIPP
  • Previous experience working in a company payroll team or payroll bureau
  • Experience of a deadline driven environment
  • Experience and/or knowledge of using Carval payroll system or similar
  • Knowledge of reconciliations and the ability to drill down to the cause of a problem
  • Computer skills: general IT skills and excellent working knowledge of Excel (including pivot tables, lookups)
